Weyland has developed a technology that makes it possible to produce sugar and bio-ethanol from a variety of cellulosic biomass sources.
Weyland's process is based on a robust and scalable concentrated acid hydrolysis. The uniqueness of the Weyland process is that the acid can be recovered and recycled, thus making the process economically viable and industrial scalable.
The concentrated acid process has been tested on a wide variety of biomass, including timber harvesting residues, corn stover, sawdust, paper pulp, rice straw, etc.
The technology has been developed through several years of research and testing in the laboratories at the Bergen University College in Norway. A pilot plant with capacity of 2 tones of feedstock per day is now complete and will be put into production in the third quarter of 2010.
